Anomalies and the chiral magnetic effect in the Sakai-Sugimoto model

چکیده
In the chiral magnetic effect an imbalance in the number of leftand righthanded quarks gives rise to an electromagnetic current parallel to the magnetic field produced in noncentral heavy-ion collisions. The chiral imbalance may be induced by topologically nontrivial gluon configurations via the QCD axial anomaly, while the resulting electromagnetic current itself is a consequence of the QED anomaly. In the Sakai-Sugimoto model, which in a certain limit is dual to large-Nc QCD, we discuss the proper implementation of the QED axial anomaly, the (ambiguous) definition of chiral currents, and the calculation of the chiral magnetic effect. We show that this model correctly contains the so-called consistent anomaly, but requires the introduction of a (holographic) finite counterterm to yield the correct covariant anomaly. Introducing net chirality through an axial chemical potential, we find a nonvanishing vector current only before including this counterterm. This seems to imply the absence of the chiral magnetic effect in this model. On the other hand, for a conventional quark chemical potential and large magnetic field, which is of interest in the physics of compact stars, we obtain a nontrivial result for the axial current that is in agreement with previous calculations and known exact results for QCD.

External Fields and Chiral Symmetry Breaking in the Sakai–Sugimoto Model
Using the Sakai–Sugimoto model we study the effect of an external magnetic field on the dynamics of fundamental flavours in both the confined and deconfined phases of a large Nc gauge theory. We find that an external magnetic field promotes chiral symmetry breaking, consistent with the “magnetic catalysis” observed in the field theory literature, and seen in other studies using holographic dual...
متن کاملMeson supercurrents and the Meissner effect in the Sakai-Sugimoto model
The Sakai-Sugimoto model provides a holographic description for chiral symmetry breaking. We use this model to investigate chirally broken phases in an external magnetic field at finite isospin and baryon chemical potentials. The equations of motion for the bulk gauge fields are solved analytically and the free energy is computed from the Yang-Mills and Chern-Simons contributions to the D8 bran...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of NJL and Sakai-Sugimoto Models
The Nambu–Jona-Lasinio and Sakai–Sugimoto models are juxtaposed, focusing on the models’ dynamically generated masses and the phase diagrams. The models are studied in the parameter space of temperature, constant electromagnetic fields and the quark chemical potential. When the chemical potential is zero or small, the models show good agreement. However, the responses of the models under the la...

A brief review of the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model is given, which is a topdown holographic model of low-energy QCD with chiral quarks derived from type-IIA superstring theory. The main predictions of the model, in particular concerning meson spectra, the gluon condensate, the QCD string tension, the mass of the η′ and of baryons are discussed and compared quantitatively with available experimen...
متن کاملSakai-Sugimoto model, Tachyon Condensation and Chiral symmetry Breaking
We modify the Sakai-Sugimoto model of chiral symmetry breaking to take into account the open string tachyon which stretches between the flavour D8-branes and D8-branes. There are several reasons of consistency for doing this: (i) Even if it might be reasonable to ignore the tachyon in the ultraviolet where the flavour branes and antibranes are well separated and the tachyon is small, it is like...
